 Great source of DHA for pre and post natal mothersDec 05, 2012

If you are an expecting mom, you probably already know how important this stuff is. I used this through both of my pregnancies. I think they are great. They don't taste weird or have any after taste, and for someone who has a terrible gag reflex I never have any issues with swallowing these pills. I also continue taking these during the time I am breast-feeding.
Since, so many nutrients are passed from the mother to baby during this time it is recommended to continue to take your prenatals vitamins and dha for the duration. Unfortunately I was not able to breast-feed my first due to lactation issues developed from a bad case of mastitis and I reluctantly switched to formula. For my second, I did not have any problems since I supplemented blessed thistle and drank mothers milk tea, highly recommended to any mothers with lactation issues - Organic Mother's Milk Tea + FREE Nature's Way Blessed Thistle (100 Capsules).
Something else to keep in mind is that a dha supplement is not a replacement for a good prenatal multivitamin. If your multi contains dha then that can be your substitute for a separate dha pill but not the other way around. I found it more economical to get the Nature Made brand (under 7 dollars at Sam's Club) and then take my dha separately.

I got two packs for the price of 1 when ordering her on amazon. My doctor recommended taking this at my 28 week appointment, however I wish I would have started taking this during the pregnancy.

I tried 2 other 5-HTP supplements from other brands at the 50mg capsule level and felt benefit, but nothing dramatic. But I felt I still needed something else. I had figured out that two 50mg pills at a time was best, so when I finished the other brands, I decided to just move up to the 100mg capsule level. In so doing, I decided to try Best 5-HTP since it seemed so cheap and popular. Wow! What a difference! During the first day I felt that it dramatically helped my anxiety. I realized that certain tasks at work that I feel mild dread toward seemed to not be such a big deal. The 5-HTP alone would not be enough and vice versa. But they seem to work really well together at helping me get through the day and sleeping at night. Certainly better than effexor risperidone ever did, and minus the horrible effexor side effects! I take 1 capsule of this 5-HTP in the morning on an empty stomach when I wake up. Before bed, I take another single capsule along with Melatonin.
